Zones are clusters of IPs grouped together based on a defined geographic location. Zones can be useful for networks with multiple data centers or carriers that need to split customers based on IP(s) for cross-connect. Trunk Groups can be sub-divided into zones and locations.

...

A Zone is a grouping of one or more SIP signaling IP Address(es) and one or more Media IP Address(es). Every Peeredge Switch has at least one Zone (i.e. the default Zone). Zones provides a means to establish SIP Trunks connectivity to the Peeredge Switch using different transport technologies or to allow carriers to split customers traffic based on IP Address(es) for cross-connects. For example, a switch can have an “Internet” Zone with public SIP and Media IP addresses. The switch could also have a Zone that directly connects to a customer’s MPLS VRF or a customer’s AWS private network. Every Trunk defined in a Trunk Group is associated to a specific Zone and switch (i.e. switch location).
