What is a Zone?
A Zone is a grouping of one or more SIP signaling IP Address(es) and one or more Media IP Address(es). Every Peeredge Switch has at least one Zone (i.e. the default Zone). Zones provide a means to establish SIP Trunks connectivity to the Peeredge Switch using different transport technologies or to allow carriers to split customer traffic based on IP Address(es) for cross-connects. For example, a switch can have an “Internet” Zone with public SIP and Media IP addresses.
The switch could also have a Zone that directly connects to a customer’s MPLS VRF or a customer’s AWS private network. Every Trunk defined in a Trunk Group is associated with a specific Zone and switch (i.e. switch location). The combination of the Switch Location and the Zone determines what Switch IPs can be selected.
