Trunk Groups (Overview)

Key terms

RELATIONSHIP Displays the name of the trunk group relationship.

NAME (ID) The name of the trunk group followed by the Trunk Group ID in parathesis. Trunk Group IDs uniquely identify a trunk group and are automatically assigned when the Trunk Group is created. The first trunk group created has an ID of 1. Each new trunk group has an ID with a value of 1 higher than the previously created group. Use meaningful names to help identify the purpose of the trunk group.

DIRECTION Trunk groups can have a Termination or Origination direction. A Termination Trunk Group is used to “terminate” traffic coming from a customer to the PSTN. An Origination Trunk Group is used to deliver PSTN traffic to a customer.

RELATIONSHIP TYPE Trunk groups can have a customer or vendor relationship type. A Customer Trunk Group is used to communicate to customer SIP-enabled network devices. A Vendor Trunk Group is used to communicate to Vendor (PSTN Providers) SIP-enabled network devices.

RATE DECKS Displays the number of rate decks associated with the trunk group. Hover the rate deck number to display the rate deck names.

ROUTEPLANS Displays the name of the routeplan associated with the trunk group.

TRUNKS Displays the number of trunks that are part of the trunk group. Hover the TRUNKS number to display the name of the trunks.

MONITORING Displays a Yes when Trunk Monitoring is enabled otherwise, a “--” is displayed. Note: Trunk Monitoring only applies to Origination Customer and Termination Vendor Trunk Groups.

MEDIA ANCHORED Displays Enabled if Anchor Media is enabled on the Media Handling page otherwise, it displays Disabled.

PORTS Displays the number of ports configured in the Ports field in the General Section of the Trunk Groups Info page. If the Ports field is empty, then “--” displays. For Origination Customer and Termination Vendor Trunk Groups, Ports defines the total number of simultaneous calls that can be forwarded across all trunks configured in the trunk group. For Origination Vendor and Termination Customer Trunk Groups, Ports defines the total number of simultaneous calls that can be received by all of the trunks configured in the trunk group. When the Ports field is empty and a capacity group is not associated with the trunk group, the Port limit equals the system Port limit as displayed in the upper right of the portal.

CPS Displays the number of calls per second configured in the CPS field in the General Section of the Trunk Groups Info page. If the CPS field is empty, then “--” displays. CPS determines the number of calls per second that can be processed by the trunk group. When the Ports field is empty, and a capacity group is not associated with the trunk group, the CPS limit equals the system CPS limit as displayed in the upper right of the portal.

STIR/SHAKEN This needs to be fixed.

STATUS When checked, the trunk group is available for use. When not checked, the trunk group is not used. The status (use) of the trunk group is independent of the monitoring (e.g. sending and receiving of SIP Option messages).
